AMD hikes GPU and chipset prices 10% as TSMC wafer costs bite

AMD reportedly told partners to expect ~10% higher prices on Radeon GPUs, AI accelerators and chipsets from Q4. Ryzen may be next.

AMD has reportedly told partners to expect a price rise of about 10% on AI accelerators, Radeon GPUs and motherboard chipsets starting in Q4 2026. The notice went out around September 17, according to Chinese supply-chain outlet ChannelGate. A $600 Radeon card could be about $660 by the holidays, and X670E/X870E boards with AMD's Promontory chipset will cost more too.

Ryzen CPUs are missing from the list for now. AMD appears to be waiting to see what Intel does before it decides. Intel is raising PC CPU prices by up to 10% on October 5, its third increase since late 2025. Analysts expect AMD to follow with its own CPU increase later in Q4.

The cause is TSMC. It is raising prices on advanced processes by 3-10% a year. Wafers now cost about $18.5K at 5nm, $20-22K at 3nm and ~$30K at 2nm. TSMC is also paying for $60B+ in capex and higher electricity bills. AMD designs chips but doesn't make them, so it has little leverage. Samsung Foundry still struggles with yields, and Intel Foundry isn't ready for outside customers at scale.

Why it matters: the AI build-out is pushing up the cost of every chip on TSMC's lines, and gamers and AI buyers will pay more this Q4.
