Anthropic extends free Fable 5 access through July 12
Claude's Fable 5 stays in Pro/Max subscriptions a few days longer before shifting to usage credits.

Anthropic is keeping Fable 5 — its Mythos-class flagship — inside subscription plans a little longer, extending included access through July 12. The original window closed July 7, after which the model was set to move to pay-as-you-go usage credits.
The extension caps a messy stretch for the model. US export controls hit Fable 5 and Mythos 5 on June 12, forcing Anthropic to restrict foreign nationals. Those controls were lifted June 30, and Fable 5 returned globally on July 1 across Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Cowork — but capacity constraints meant subscription access came with strings: up to 50% of weekly usage limits, then credits.
Anthropic says it still wants Fable 5 back as a standard subscription model once capacity allows. For now, the extra five days is a stopgap for Pro, Max, and Team users burning through the included quota.
Why it matters: even frontier labs are rationing their best models — compute, not capability, is the bottleneck.
