Grok's app-deploy feature is real — but it hasn't shipped
xAI is building deploy-and-host with custom domains into Grok Build — but it's unreleased code, not a launch.

The claim doing the rounds — that Grok Build now turns prompts into fully functional apps on your own domain — is ahead of the facts. What actually exists is unreleased plumbing: code for deploying, hosting and publicly sharing Grok-built apps, plus custom domains so a shared app lives at your address instead of a generic link. Neither is available yet, and xAI has announced no timeline.
What is live is narrower. Grok Build went to beta on 14 May 2026, got its broad announcement on 25 May, and has run Grok 4.5 as its default model since 15 July. It's a terminal-native coding agent — Rust CLI, TUI, plan mode, parallel subagents, now open-sourced — aimed at professional engineers on SuperGrok and X Premium Plus. It provisions no auth, no database, no payments, no file storage, no deployed URL, no domain. You still pair it with something else to actually ship.
The timing hint: deploy tooling would land naturally alongside Grok 4.6, reportedly due in August. That would push xAI directly into Google AI Studio's build-and-publish territory and the Lovable/Replit tier of prompt-to-app builders — a very different market from a CLI for engineers.
Why it matters: the gap between "shipped" and "spotted in the code" is where most AI-launch hype lives, and this one is still on the wrong side of it.
