Meta's 100g VR Glasses put a live hologram of you on the call

Meta's $1,299 VR Glasses build a photorealistic hologram of your face for WhatsApp and Zoom calls. They ship in spring 2027.

Meta just put hologram calling in a pair of glasses. At Connect 2026 it showed the Meta VR Glasses, which use inward-facing sensors to build a photorealistic digital version of you, with your real-time expressions, while you talk. The person on the other end doesn't need a headset. They see your hologram on their phone or laptop in WhatsApp, Zoom or any other calling app. For the wearer, spatial audio makes the caller's voice come from where they appear in the room.

The hardware is small for VR. It weighs about 100 grams, which Meta says is five times lighter than a Quest 3, because the battery sits in a tethered puck. You get a 5K micro-OLED display, a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip and a Meta AI agent built into the OS that you control with your voice, eyes and hand gestures. The glasses cost $1,299.99 and ship in spring 2027.

You don't have to wait that long to try holograms. Meta is bringing the same holographic avatars to Meta Ray-Ban Display this fall in early access, starting with WhatsApp calls in the US. Meta says setup takes about five minutes.

Why it matters: an AI-generated version of your face is becoming the normal way to show up on a call, which makes a hologram of you a default feature rather than a sci-fi demo.
