Meta's testing AI glasses that record your whole day
Prototype snaps a photo every few seconds and records audio nonstop — with no LED to warn bystanders.

Meta is testing always-on AI glasses that capture your entire day — snapping a photo every few seconds and recording audio continuously, per a Financial Times report. The pitch: an AI you can query about anything you saw or heard, all day long.
Here's the catch. Rather than store raw footage, Meta reportedly wants to extract metadata from recordings and upload it to its servers for the AI to search. And the privacy kicker — executives are said to be planning not to light up the capture LED during this "super-sensing" mode. Today's Ray-Ban Meta glasses require a manual tap and flash a visible indicator; this prototype ditches both.
That's a hard turn from Meta's "less creepy" public messaging. A wearable that photographs everyone around you, silently, with no signal it's recording, is a surveillance device by any other name.
Why it matters: if always-on capture becomes the default for smart glasses, everyone near a wearer becomes a data source — consent not included.
