PwC teams up with Cohere to push AI out of pilot purgatory

PwC and Cohere announced a global enterprise-AI alliance on Oct 5, starting in Canada. The aim is to get companies out of endless AI pilots and into production with returns they can measure.

The work is split cleanly. Cohere supplies the tech: its North agentic AI platform, its enterprise models, and search and retrieval tools. PwC handles the rest: finding use cases, assessing risk and regulatory exposure, redesigning workflows, setting governance controls, connecting systems and data, and running the rollout. The offer is aimed at regulated sectors like finance, healthcare and government. Clients can run it on a private cloud, on-premises, or fully air-gapped. Early use cases include enterprise search, knowledge access, deep research, decision support, content generation and task automation.

"Enterprises need AI that can deliver real capability without forcing them to give up control of their data," said Cohere CEO Aidan Gomez. PwC Canada, which has more than 6,500 partners and staff, says governance and human oversight have to be built in from the start. Neither company has disclosed customers, contract values or a timeline for expanding beyond Canada.

Why it matters: Cohere is betting on sovereignty and data control, not frontier benchmarks, and a Big Four partner gives it a direct route into the banks and governments that have been slowest to adopt AI.
