Google Cloud now sells GPT-6 alongside Gemini and Claude

Google Cloud is now the only hyperscaler selling Gemini, Claude and GPT side by side. Three OpenAI models are rolling out in private preview in Vertex AI's Model Garden. GPT-6 Astra is the flagship for hard coding, computer-use and science work. GPT-6.1 Sol comes close to Astra for less money and targets agentic coding. GPT-6 Luna is the fast, cheap one for everyday work at scale.

The real hook is the billing. Usage goes through Google Cloud Marketplace, shows up on the same Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing cloud commits and Flexible Savings Plans. Nobody has to negotiate a separate vendor contract. Codex comes with it too: preview customers can point their local Codex CLI and Desktop workflows at Google's platform for inference. Prompts and outputs stay inside the customer's data perimeter and aren't used for training. Zero Data Retention and Confidential Compute are listed as "coming soon."

Access is limited to select enterprise customers for now, who sign up through an interest form. Google hasn't published a GA date or per-token pricing. OpenAI models are also headed to Gemini for business and Google Antigravity.

Why it matters: for Google Cloud customers, the cost of switching to GPT just dropped close to zero, and the model wars are turning into a fight over procurement as much as over benchmarks.
