GPT-6 lands in ChatGPT, and answers now come with buttons

OpenAI's GPT-6 rollout adds Intelligent UI: ChatGPT can now answer with live calculators, editable graphs and maps, not just text.

GPT-6 lands in ChatGPT, and answers now come with buttons

ChatGPT has stopped being just a text box. Alongside GPT-6, OpenAI started rolling out Intelligent UI on Oct 7. When the model decides a question needs it, the answer includes tappable buttons, custom calculators, interactive charts, editable graphs and maps you can use right in the chat. Simple questions still get plain text, and you can turn the visuals down if they get in the way.

Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users got it first on GPT-6 Sol. Free and Go users followed a day later on GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI's demos included a lift diagram for an airplane wing, a map for a multi-day hike, a retirement savings calculator and a bill splitter. On web-search questions, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant. That number comes from OpenAI's own internal testing. The UI is built from streamable components, so it renders while the model is still writing.

"ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface," OpenAI PM Aarush Selvan told TechCrunch, and "the most helpful answers aren't just text." The API hasn't changed, and the models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex are the same as before.

Why it matters: chatbots are turning into app builders that create a small tool on the spot for each question, for more than 1.2B weekly users.
