Your shared Claude chats were showing up in Google search

A Reddit find surfaced claude.ai/share links in Google — legal advice, source code, and reportedly credentials.

Your shared Claude chats were showing up in Google search

A Reddit post over the weekend showed that site:claude.ai/share was a working Google query. It returned shared Claude conversations — legal discussions, engineering work, source code, business details, and, per users digging through results, credentials and crypto info. Nothing was hacked. All of it was public by design the moment a share link left its owner's hands.

Anthropic's line: spokesperson Gabby Curtis said the company doesn't hand search engines sitemaps or directories of shared chats and blocks crawlers on its own site — the links got indexed because people posted them on forums and social media where crawlers picked them up. The results largely vanished from Google by Sunday. Whether that's a noindex tag, a deindex request, or Google quietly dropping them isn't clear.

The part that isn't fixed: deindexing kills discoverability, not access. Any share URL somebody bookmarked still resolves unless it's revoked server-side. And this is a rerun — Google indexed 300+ public Bard conversation pages in September 2023 and called it unintentional.

Why it matters: "share link" in every AI chat app means publish, and users keep reading it as "send to a friend".
