Claude Dashboards: what it does, pricing and alternatives
Ask Claude a plain-language question about warehouse or CRM data and get a live dashboard with SQL behind each chart
Best for
- Quick, exploratory questions about warehouse data, such as comparing this week's signups with last month's
- Teams already paying for Claude that want a shareable chart without opening a ticket with an analyst
- Salesforce users who want a pipeline view without moving the data into a warehouse first
- Analysts who want a fast first draft with visible SQL they can check
Not for
- Governed reporting where every team must use the same agreed definition of a metric such as revenue
- Organisations that need scheduled delivery, alerts or documented refresh guarantees
- HIPAA-regulated workloads that need Business Associate Agreement coverage

What it does
Claude Dashboards is a beta feature that Anthropic announced on October 8, 2026. It turns a plain-language question about company data into a dashboard that stays up to date. According to the launch post, you connect a data platform and ask a question, and Claude builds the dashboard. The named platforms are Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake. Salesforce is the CRM example, and the post says Dashboards also works with other connectors.
The help center describes the mechanics. A dashboard is an artifact built from a Dashboards template. Claude writes a SQL query for each chart and runs it against the data source. Each chart shows its query and when its data was last refreshed. The announcement puts it this way: "Click any number to see the query behind it, or ask Claude to explain it." For deeper work, the share menu can send a dashboard to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog or Sigma. Looker, monday.com and Tableau are listed as coming soon.
Who it is for
The feature is aimed at people with questions about their numbers but no analyst free to build the chart. That includes operations managers, product managers, sales and revenue operations leads, and founders. Anthropic is careful about scope. Both the announcement and the help center describe Dashboards as suited to "quick, exploratory questions" and suggest moving to a dedicated BI tool for deeper analysis. Analysts may still find it useful as a fast draft, because the SQL is visible and can be corrected.
Access depends on the plan. The help center says Dashboards is in beta on Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and the pricing page confirms the Free plan does not include it. On Enterprise it is off by default until an owner enables it in Organization settings under Artifacts. Owners can also limit it to specific groups.
How people use it
Take a sales operations lead who wants a weekly view of open Salesforce opportunities by stage, compared with last month. Based on the help center, the workflow runs like this. First, they connect Salesforce, or the warehouse where the CRM data lands, as a connector in Claude. Next, in a chat they choose Output in the message box and pick Dashboards, or they start from a Dashboards template in the Artifacts tab. They then describe the question, not just the chart type. Something like "show open opportunities by stage, weekly, compared with last month, from the opportunities table" works better, and the guide specifically recommends naming the table or app.
Claude drafts the charts. Before sharing, the lead opens each chart's query to confirm what it counts. If it is counting the wrong thing, they tell Claude what to change, for example adding a filter or switching to a weekly view. Finally they click Share. Dashboards start out private, and every one is saved in the Artifacts tab.
The i-scoop explainer says that checking the query is essential, not optional. It gives examples of drafts that count every signup when only paid signups were wanted, or that use order date instead of ship date. It also warns that a vague prompt may lead Claude to query a stale staging table.
Pricing
The Claude pricing page, checked on 2026-10-12, does not list a separate price for Dashboards. The help center says usage counts toward your plan's normal limits. The Free plan is $0 but does not include Dashboards. Pro is $17 a month with the annual discount ($200 billed up front) or $20 billed monthly. Max starts at $100 a month for 5x or 20x Pro usage. Team Standard seats are $20 per seat per month billed annually or $25 monthly. Team Premium seats are $100 per seat per month annually or $125 monthly. Enterprise is $20 per seat per month billed annually, plus usage at API rates. The page notes that prices exclude tax and may change. As the eesel review points out, the warehouse bills its own compute for the queries Claude runs, so Snowflake or BigQuery costs come on top of the Claude plan.
Strengths
The main strength is transparency. Each number links to the SQL that produced it, and each chart carries a last-refreshed timestamp, so a reader can tell where a figure came from and how recent it is. The range of sources is also broad for a first release: five major warehouses plus app connectors such as Salesforce. That means a CRM dashboard does not need a warehouse first.
Permissions are handled conservatively. According to i-scoop, which relays a statement from an Anthropic spokesperson, each viewer's own connection runs the queries by default. People therefore see only the data their accounts can already reach. On Team and Enterprise, dashboards stay inside the organisation unless an owner allows external sharing.
For teams already on Claude, there is no separate fee, and the handoff to tools like Hex and Sigma gives a path toward more governed reporting later.
Limits and things to watch
The biggest concern among reviewers is consistency of metrics. The eesel review notes that Claude writes SQL fresh for each chart and there is no semantic layer. Two dashboards could therefore define "revenue" differently. i-scoop says semantic-layer support is only planned. The same review collects launch-day reactions on social media. People asked whether edited queries persist after a refresh and how row-level permissions behave for shared viewers. One commenter dismissed the feature as prompting Python in Claude.
The eesel review could not find documentation of a refresh schedule, a refresh button, alerts, scheduled delivery, or row and chart limits. Sharing also has rough edges. Connected dashboards cannot use "Anyone with the link," external invitees lose the connected parts, and viewers without access to a source see errors. The same review lists a 20 MB artifact storage cap and no Business Associate Agreement coverage for HIPAA-ready organisations. It also says Dashboards is not available through third-party cloud platforms. Finally, this is a beta, and Anthropic has said the experience may change.
When to choose something else
Hex is the better fit when analysts need to go past a quick answer. According to its pricing page, the Community plan is free, Professional is $36 per editor per month, Team is $75 per editor per month with a 14-day trial, and Enterprise is custom. It combines notebooks, an AI agent and connections to any data source.
ThoughtSpot suits companies that want natural-language search for many business users on top of a modelled data layer. Its pricing page lists Essentials from $25 per user per month billed annually, a Pro tier with usage-based and per-user options, custom Enterprise pricing, and an embedded developer tier that is free for a year.
Sigma is aimed at governed, spreadsheet-style analysis that runs directly on Snowflake, Databricks and BigQuery. Its pricing page does not publish prices and points to a free trial and sales. It is worth choosing when consistent reporting matters more than speed of the first draft.
Verdict
Claude Dashboards removes the step of asking someone else to build a chart, and it shows its SQL and refresh time openly. For a team already paying for Claude with a warehouse or Salesforce connected, it is a sensible tool for quick questions now, provided someone reads the query before the numbers spread. Organisations whose decisions depend on a single agreed definition of each metric, scheduled reporting or regulated data should treat it as a drafting tool for now. They should keep a governed BI product in place until Anthropic documents refresh behaviour and ships the semantic-layer support i-scoop describes as planned.
Alternatives compared
| Tool | Pricing | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|
| Hex | Community: Free. Professional: $36 per Editor per month. Team: $75 per Editor per month, with a 14-day free trial and no card required. Enterprise: custom pricing. | Choose Hex when analysts need to keep working on the analysis in notebooks with SQL and Python, an AI agent, and published apps. Anthropic itself names Hex as a place to send a dashboard for deeper work. |
| ThoughtSpot | Essentials starts 'as low as $25 per user / per month (billed annually)' for 5 to 50 users. Pro is listed with usage-based pricing from $0.10 per credit and also at $50 per user per month billed annually. Enterprise is custom. Embedded Developer is free for one year. | Choose ThoughtSpot when a company wants natural-language search and AI agents across many business users, built on a modelled data layer with defined row and user tiers. |
| Sigma | The pricing page does not list plan prices. It offers a free trial and directs buyers to sales. | Choose Sigma when teams want spreadsheet-style, governed analysis running directly on Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery, with scheduling and AI agents. It is also a supported handoff target from Claude Dashboards. |
Verdict
Teams already on a paid Claude plan with a connected warehouse can try Claude Dashboards now for quick questions, as long as someone checks the SQL. Organisations that need one agreed definition of each metric, scheduled reports or documented refresh guarantees should wait for the beta to mature and keep using a governed BI tool.
