OpenAI's GPT-Rosalind Targets Drug Discovery & Genomics
OpenAI launches GPT-Rosalind, a life sciences AI that outperforms GPT-5.4 on biology benchmarks and partners with Amgen, Moderna & Thermo Fisher.

OpenAI just dropped GPT-Rosalind — a specialized model for drug discovery, genomics, and life sciences research, named after DNA pioneer Rosalind Franklin.
The model is built to handle evidence synthesis, hypothesis generation, and experimental planning — querying scientific databases, parsing literature, and suggesting novel research pathways all in one interface. On LABBench2, it beat GPT-5.4 on 6 of 11 tasks, and ranked above the 95th percentile of human experts on RNA prediction. Launch partners include Amgen, Moderna, and Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Access is gated through a trusted-access program for qualified US enterprise customers via ChatGPT, Codex, and the API — with strict biosecurity controls baked in.
Why it matters: OpenAI is moving fast to own the biotech AI stack before Google DeepMind (AlphaFold, AlphaProteo) or specialized players lock up pharma partnerships.
